£76 For The Wheel And Tyre.. But It's Still Too Much

Purchased my Sapphire Black Zafira SRi 2.0 DTi (lovely it is) as my xmas present for dec 2004. I looked at all the write ups and in particular the poor remarks about the spare wheel.
The cost of £150 to fit a lock seemed a bit steep so i decided not to have it fitted. was washing the car at the weekend and low and behold the wheel has been stolen.

Contacted a York Ward and Rowlatt, a vauxhall dealer in wellingborough. passed to several depts and was even told by one person that we fit locking kits for free (he meant wheel nuts of course).
Spoke to the Masterfit manager, he has arranged for the spare wheel locking kit to be supplied and fitted frre of charge, as a good will gesture. The down side, i still have to pay for the spare wheel and tyre, cheapest solution so far is £76.
You might say, thats better than £140 that it was going to cost me. Not at all, this is clearly a design fault. I took great care in making sure that i park safe places. In multi storey car park, always reversing back against a wall etc. Yet some tw@t still decided to steal it and leave e with a £70 bill. I will report the incident to the police as well.

The Zafira is a good all round family car

Based on the Vauxhall Astra chassis, there are quite a few similarities between the two cars, such as the general driving ride and the quality of the car as a whole.

There have been a few problems that general users have seen with the cars, such as:

• The engine cutting out when idle.
• The In car radio not functioning correctly.
• A squeaking noise from the brakes after only 10,000 miles or so use.
• Spare wheel thefts.
• A necessity to keep refilling the oil on diesel models (1 litre every thousand miles or so).
• Small storage space.
• Strange engine noises which can not be located or fixed.

Saying this, however. The car is very practical and does have some very good points. The innovative ?Flex 7? seating system makes it very easy to switch the car from 5 to 7 seats without too much hassle.

Other nice features include easy access to the car thanks to the wide opening doors, ideal for families with small children, and an anti-stall device. Designed to stop the car from stalling a low revs.

The car is generally very good and although a minority of owners have had some problems, it represents extremley good value for money and provides a great means of getting the whole family from one place to another.
